In news that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are not the last two games consoles Microsoft will launch.

As Videogamer reports, Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently gave an interview to Yahoo Finance during which he was asked if we will see another generation of console hardware after this one. Spencer replied by saying, "In terms of future hardware, absolutely I think we're going to see more console hardware down the road. Just like in video, just like in music, it's not that streaming has cut off device innovation. I think we'll continue to see that, and that's absolutely what we're planning for."

The question arose due to Microsoft's shift this generation to embrace game streaming using Project xCloud and focus on subscription gaming using Xbox Game Pass. Neither of these services really need Xbox hardware to work, but having the Xbox there to offer all the latest tech, including HDR, 4K visuals, ray-tracing, and pushing very fast storage tech, certainly helps. Now we know for sure there will be at least one more generation of Xbox hardware after this one.

As with the last generation of Xbox hardware, I'd be very surprised if we didn't see more Xbox consoles launching this coming generation, let alone next-next-gen. Remember we've just gone through having an Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and the Xbox One SAD. The Xbox Series X and Series S will likely be joined by other Series consoles over the coming years as a way of extending the generation. Your guess is as good as mine as to what letters they will use, though. For now, we can look forward to the new Xbox consoles arriving on Nov. 10, joined by the two variants of the PS5 two days later.
