While the beginning of 2020 was punctuated by an array of 5G flagships, the year ends with nearly as many midrange options. Verizon’s newest offering, the TCL 10 5G UW, is a perfect example; it offers multi-band 5G and solid hardware for just $399.99.

This is Verizon’s third TCL-branded offering in 2020, and the most affordable 5G smartphone in its portfolio by $200. For the most part, it’s similar to T-Mobile’s Revvl 5G (also made by TCL), with one significant difference—it includes support for Verizon’s super fast, and sporadic, 5G network without adding the mmWave tax found on other phones like the Pixel 4a 5G.

The TCL 10 5G UW's hardware is similar to midrange 5G smartphones like the Pixel 4a 5G and Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. It sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. There’s a 4,500mAh battery, which seems small on paper, but the similarly spec’d Revvl 5G got more than 10 hours of uptime in our battery test.

A vertical camera stripe sits across the back of the TCL 10 5G UW with a 48P, 8MP, and 5MP lens. There’s a 16MP sensor on the front of the phone. Some variation on this camera configuration seems to be popular for midrange 5G phones; the Motorola One 5G, Revvl 5G, and Samsung Galaxy A51 5G all feature the same sensors.

And while the TCL 10 5G UW ships with Android 10, the company confirmed it will get an Android 11 update in the near future as well as quarterly upgrades for at least two years. TCL’s phones ship with a stock version of Android, though Verizon has preloaded about a dozen apps on the phone. Fortunately, most can be removed if you need extra storage.

The TCL 10 5G UW is available today online and in Verizon stores. We'll have a full review on PCMag.com soon.
